In California, voters approved a mid-decade redistricting plan that replaced the state’s independent redistricting commission with a map expected to net Democrats as many as five additional House seats. The move by the Golden State came in response to a similar effort by Republicans in Texas, setting the stage for one of the most consequential redistricting battles in recent history. As it stands today, Democrats appear well-positioned to capitalize on the new map.

In Florida, the primary election will take place on August 18th. The former swing state has shifted firmly into Republican control over the past decade. Republican Governor Ron DeSantis signed a mid-decade congressional map into law that could expand the GOP’s advantage in the state from 20-8 to as much as 24-4. As President Donald J. Trump’s home state, Florida Republicans are taking every available step to protect & expand their hold over the Sunshine State.

Massachusetts, or the Bay State, is a safe state for Democrats in 2026. While the state has a wonky history of electing a Republican Governor, all three major seats are held by Democrats- this includes the Governorship & the two Senate seats held by Elizabeth Warren & Ed Markey, who are both in their 13th year in their respective seats. Moving down the ballot, the remaining congressional breakdown is 9-0 in Democrats’ favor, with 8 of the 9 incumbents running for re-election. The primary elections are set for September 9th, followed by the general election on November 3.
